Women who have better sleep, have better sex

Women who have better sleep, have better sex

Sex drives are a complicated thing, and can be influenced by many, many factors.A recent study from the Mayo Clinic suggests a pretty significant link, particularly for women, between sex drive/satisfaction, and sleep quality. This study compared women who sleep a healthy 7-8 hours per night against those who sleep less. The results showed that women who sleep less, are much less likely to have sex with their partners and also reported lower sexual satisfaction.Interestingly, women who scored higher on insomnia screenings had the same amount of sex as those with healthy sleep, but with lower sexual satisfaction. The most likely explanation for this is just plain exhaustion; as fatigue increases, the ability to enjoy sex goes down.Fortunately, the reverse is also true; as your sleep quality increases, so does your ability to enjoy sex.If you’re someone who know’s they’re not getting the sleep they need, there are a number of things you can start doing to help change that. Here are three suggestions:

  • Have a set time to wake up and go to sleep
  • Make sure the bedroom is dark, quiet and cool
  • Avoid alcohol in the lead up to bed

These might not seem like much, but if they aren’t things you’re already doing, you’ll be surprised at what a difference they make. However, for some women, good sleep is not as easy as a few simple changes. While you might be able to improve your rest in some small ways, you should ultimately take the problem to your doctor. If you’re sleeping poorly, and it’s bringing down your quality of life then you need to get professional help.Talk to your GP and get in touch with us.
